Dr. Richard Garfein is a Professor at the UC San Diego Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Sciences and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases & Global Public Health. He is an infectious disease epidemiologist, educator, and healthcare innovator who seeks to understand the causes of disease and translate that understanding into impactful interventions. His research focuses on airborne and bloodborne infections often associated with health disparities and substance use in the U.S. and abroad. He also studies telemedicine for improving medication adherence. Dr. Garfein likes to surf, travel, garden and hang out with family and friends.
